Another strong showing for the American riders in the Dauphine Libere as David Zabriskie wins another stage in this years edition of the “mini Tour de France”. Zabriskie (CSC) had a break out season last year when he won the opening prologue time trial and held the yellow jersey for several days. His affection for the race against the clock has been well known with the cycling community, often times people mention that David has the best aerodynamic position in the pro peleton.
What was really intresting in yesterdays 43 kilometer race is that the American’s took the first four places, it was not that long ago when the Americans hardly made a showing in pro cycling. Sure we have had our Greg Lemond, Armstrong, Andy Hampsten and other Americans who have done well. But I can not think of a time when their were so many top pro Americans all racing at the same time. It is great to see such an increase of top level Americans.
As I am posting this the riders are just now at the base of one of the most famous climbs in all of cycling, the dreaded Mont Ventoux which is often riden in the Tour as well as the Dauphine. Todays stage will most likely really effect the GC standings. More posts and info to come after todays stage.
