While many of the cycling bloggers (and press, and other riders, and team managers … and …you get the point) have been busy posting and reporting about Jan Ullrich’s late start to the season Ullrich has been busy getting fit by riding the Tour de Romandie and the Giro d’ Italia where he won today’s time trial by 28 seconds to Italian Ivan Basso.
While many cycling fans would say the one time Tour winner does have several pounds to drop before this years Tour begins in July it can not be denied that Ullrich looked to be in great form today as he rode to victory in his favorite discipline. While Ullrich did win todays stage Basso put in an outstanding performance that was good enough to keep his leaders jersey as the race heads into the mountains in the coming days.
