Ullrich: Armstrong & I Are Not Friends

German cycling star Yan Ullrich seams a bit overly confident in the last days leading up to the tour this year, saying he is poised ready to steal Armstrong’s last Tour de France victory from the Texan as he prepares for this final race as a pro cyclist. Yan Ullrich then went as far as to comment saying he does not consider him a friend, saying “I don’t even have his mobile phone number. We are sporting rivals, no friends. Due to our rivalry, we cannot have any personal contacts. We shake each others hands at the start and wish each other good luck, but that’s it.”

Mean while Lance Armstrong was in the south of France gearing up and training in the Alps with friend Axle Merckx (son of cycling giant Eddie Merckx), Lance spent six hours in the saddle on Monday and called it “his last real training ride of his career”.

One of the things I think Lance does better than any cyclist to date is “preview” the stages of each tdf. Lance has never been willing to put anything to chance or risk, understanding important sections of each tour has payed off. This year Lance reports “the tour we be won in the alps”, in fact in nearly every tour win for Armstrong he has put his competitors in trouble in the mountain stages.
