Being a big tour fan now for about four years thanks to the excellent tv coverage that OLN provides it comes to no surprise that this time of year we always get some degree of “cycling trash talk” especially when it comes to one time Tour de France winner Jan Ullrich. While many say that Jan possibly has the best raw talent he has a tough time with discipline and training as well as his weight.
It was just weeks ago that T-Mobile release “Jan has injured his ankle” and will be pulling out of several races due to injury. The last bit of Tour gossip revolves around Basso running into Ullrich at a training camp in Tuscany Italy and witnessing the Germans terrible form. Bjarne Riis believes Ullrich is significantly off course in terms of his preparation for the Tour de France. Riis who runs the tight pro team CSC reports his forum as “absolutely catastrophic”.
With Armstrong out of the race one would think the German would push himself this year for a chance at the top spot. Of course it is also important to note that we get these reports year after year… and yet Jan finds himself on the podium time and time again.
Truly the battle this year will be between Basso and Ullrich, as well as some of the American’s. Jan is suppose to be racing in about a weeks time. It is also noted that the German “was” planning on riding the Giro this year as preparation for “the Tour”.
