London prepares for what they are calling “the largest cycling event ever held in London”, the Tour of Britain will kick off in Glasgow at the end of August and end in London on September 4th. The six day stage race will pass through some iconic landmarks such as Big Ben, Downing Street, the House of Parliament and Trafalgar Square. This years race promised the most talented field ever with Jan Ullrich and the T-Mobile Squad as well as the Danish power house team of CSC with current Giro leader Ivan Basso.
One of the stages that the riders will race over includes sections of the proposed Olympic road race which is to take place in 2012, and will finish up in London with an estimated 100,000 fan cheering on their favorite racers from around the world. Other parts of this years Tour of Britain will also feature sections of next years 2007 Tour de France and will give the race organisers a “dry run”. Over all the event sounds great, it has been a smaller tour over the years competing with the last Grand Tour of the pro season the Vuelta in Spain.
