All you have to do is listen wherever you go and you’re bound to here them. I’m talking about ringtones. It seems everyone has an interesting and innovative ringtone on his or her cell phone now. No phone that I ever hear simply rings anymore. Not that this is a bad thing. There is nothing wrong with expressing yourself and adding a little diversity to your life and surroundings.
For many people, these ringtones are representative of an interest that they have. Take football for instance. To show your support, all you need to do is download the “Are you ready for some football” song and everyone will know you’re a fan. Last year I watched the Tour de France almost from start to finish for the first time. Being a sports fan, I decided to see just what the hoopla was all about. Imagine my surprise when I found it to be just as intense and exciting as say March Madness (which I also love). Well, this set in motion my journey to find the perfect Tour de France ringtone to show my support of my newest sports addiction. Imagine my surprise when it turned out to be a challenge. No Tour de France ringtone with my hero Lance Armstrong singing the French National Anthem anywhere to be found. What’s a Tour de France fan to do now?
After some more intense research I finally did come across a site that offers what they call Tour De France Ringtone options. The problem is, the titles are in French (I think) and I have no idea what they mean. With titles like “Angel De Amor”, Rata de doe patas” and De Musica Ligera” it wouldn’t be possible to figure out their affiliation with the Tour de France even if I tried.
This search did not, however, turn out to be a waste of my precious time. While I was researching I did stumble across some other interesting items like cellular games and screen savers that looked pretty cool. You can wallpaper your cell phone with a variety of great photos from past races that feature either group shots or your favorite racer. These photos also show stunning views of the French countryside as the racers pass by. Screen savers for your computer are just as accessible and varied.
But let’s face it; it was a Tour de France ringtone that I was after. These other options are cool and I’ll use them but the ultimate show of support is the ringtone so I ventured on in my research. I did manage to find a Tour de France soundtrack and that gave me an idea. Could I make my own ringtone? The soundtrack was interesting enough.
Truth is, I really don’t know. That is probably out of my league of computer expertise but I could probably find someone who could help me. My kids for instance. They know a lot more about the computer than I do. They were raised on it. My father could. He’s a computer geek. (That’s now considered a compliment so I can say it with a clear conscience). I’m just now venturing into the world of modern technology. Then another thought came to me. I’m a Willie Nelson fan. He sings a song called “On the Road Again.” That’s close, I think, to what I’m trying to accomplish. I could download that onto my cell phone. Not everyone would recognize it as a Tour de France ringtone, but at least I would know and really, isn’t that all that matters?
