Coverage of this years Giro d’ Italia is underway from Seraing Belgium, the crew at cycling.tv has done a good job so far and had a nice little lead in with press coverage over the last few days. They interviewed Ivan Basso, Sean Yates and several other riders. Basso was slightly coy, saying that he feels very fit and the goal will be to win. However he realizes it will be incredibly hard and many other riders will have the same goal. Ultimately he said he wants to win “one of the grand tours” this year. With the team he has behind him at the Giro I would say he is in a great position to win.
The fastest rider so far in todays prologue finished in 8 minutes 20 seconds, with many big names to come that enjoy the time trial it will be intresting to see if any of them can beat the 8 minute mark. Sean Yates of Discovery Channel team has said their goal is to get through the time trial with all their riders in the best possible position as the team time trail is just days from the start. Obviously they are thinking about the overall and the team classification and like CSC they have one powerful squad.
