Team Time Trial Giro d’ Italia 2006

Wow, what a day at the Giro d’ Italia team time trial today, as CSC crushed all who stood in their way. It was the first team time trial in quite a while at the Giro.

While CSC won the event miss fortune was in the T-Mobile camp as they lost the day by a mere one second, and what makes it even more dramatic is that they came in with only 5 riders (the team time is taken on the fifth riders wheel) and the fith rider was dropped by the team in the last 500 meters and came in about a second or two behind the other T-Mobile riders.

Stefan Schumacher also tasted defeat as his German squad (Gerolsteiner ) could not match the pace of CSC or T-Mobile Schumacher lost the pink jersey to past world time trial champ Serhiy Honchar of T-Mobile who now leads the GC. The big winner of the day was Basso who moved up several places on the GC, Ivan is now poised in 5th position over all as the tour starts to move into the mountains this weekend the Italian rider for team CSC is in a great position to take the Maglia Rosa. Basso talked to reports after todays stage …”With my team, organised in Denmark, a crono squadra is always smooth… We have trained a lot. We are happy to win.”
