Chris Honer Takes The Win!
“You always have a chance to win” said Horner after the stage win!
The third stage of the Tour de Romandie features the first major climb of the race (which was a cat 1 climb) with about 18 kilometers their were some major attacks from the likes of Alejandro Valverde who split up the bunch in a big way. By the top of the category one climb the “selection” had been made and the group was about 20 strong. All the big names were their, Chris Horner, Paolo Savoldelli and Cadel Evans.
Soon after the climb the rider plunged down the decent and Paolo Savoldelli made one of his usual moves and attacked with split the group again to about 8 or nine riders which at that point had two Davitamon Loto rides with Savoldelli who has giving it his all to protect his yellow jersey. However the two Loto riders proved too much for Savoldelli who could not get the group to work together, instead both Horner and Evans would not pull and sat on the Discovery riders wheel.
Sure enough Horner attacked with about 2.5 k’s to go and was able to hold on for the win which also puts him on the GC leader board in the number one position ahead of both Savoldelli and Valverde by 7 seconds.
Fridays Stage Four features a mountain top finish (category 1 climb) clocking in at 164 kilometers stage, will Horner hang on? Should be a fun stage to watch!
