No Dice For Cancellara

Tour de France prologue winner in 2004 Fabian Cancellara was stunned and disappointed to learn he was not selected for this years CSC Tour de France squad. Turns out Bjarne Riis felt it was more important to fill his Tour team with riders with strong climbing skills since that is where Basso will look to capture victory.

The 24 year old Swiss rider told reporters “Bjarne has made his decision, which I know was difficult for him. He selected riders who are stronger than me in the mountains. It’s a tactical decision, and I have to respect it. What does that change? I can’t say right now. It’s going to take me a few days to recover from the disappointment.”

With his big win at this years Paris Roubaix and a strong showing at the Tour de Suisse Cancellara must have taken the news pretty hard. He mentioned that he puts his team before his own goals for the season but none the less that would be tough for any rider.
