Ah, the yellow jersey has come home to Armstrong …
After at physically demanding Team Time Trial the Discovery and Lance Armstrong are again in yellow. The discovery team rode an incredibly fast Team Time Trial (setting a record) and just narrowly beating out team CSC. Again this years tour did not disappoint the stage was very exciting, some would even have called it a nail bitter.
The Discovery Team just barely beat CSC (by two seconds) and my heart went out to David Zabriskie as he crashed a mere 1.5 k from the finish. What makes this such a pisser is that if he would have crashed another .5 he would have been within the 1k mark of the finish and been given the time of the team. I am not sure what would have happened at this point as far as the yellow jersey is concerned, being Lance was 2 seconds down from David and Discovery had beaten CSC by two seconds (both men would have been tied for first).
Regardless, David did crash just outside of the 1k mark and lost about 1 minute …. it was a very … very sad moment. Personally my heart just sank, “not like this, not with David crashing so darn close” I muttered. So is the life of a pro cyclist, one day it is roses … the next your “hitting the floor” as they call it.
I am sure Lance felt bad for Dave as well, surely he would have rather seen Dave not crash, again … it happens.
Special nod to Team Liberty Seguros, they rode very fast for a team built around climbers and Roberto Heras is moving up as the tour heads into the alps this weekend. Also note that the German squad of T-Mobile and Yan Ullrich rode to an impressive third place as well. It is heating up this July!
