Joseba Beloki - Form Is Looking Best In Years

Hard boys ….that is one of the chapters in a new book out called “Armstrongs war, the chapter talks about just how dangerous pro cycling can be with riders seriously hurting them-self quite often.

Joseba Beloki is a rider who knows just what it means to be a “hard boy” during the Tour de France of 2003 Joseba had an awful crash that was the result of extreme heat and sun that literally had begun to melt away spots on the road that he and Armstrong were descending  around 45 miles per hour.

I remember that crash all too well, me and Amanda (my now cycling fan wife) had noticed that the road looked slick with melting tar. Just then Phil Liggit mentioned the road as well and seconds later Joseba was down.

Joseba had broken several bones and was a mess as they took him to a hospital to treat his injuries. Since that time he has had a difficult time making it back to his previous level as a pro cyclist.

This year as he entered into the 2005 Tour de France he team manager said he thought possibly Joseba should continue to train and try to loose another kilo or so and prepare for the Tour of Spain in September. None the less Joseba entered into this years tour and so far is looking good finishing the last two days with the main group containing the GC contenders. I think having both Roberto Heras and Joseba on the same team might be a feather in the cap of Liberty Seguros.

Ride on Joseba and welcome back ;-)
