Tyler Hamilton was recently seen racing in a nonsantioned event in Colorado but quickly dropped out of the event when the UCI contacted the US cycling federation in regards to Hamilton. The UCI says they can not stop a banned rider from participating in non sanctioned events however they would inpose a one month ban on any rider that participates in any race with a banned rider.
Back in the 2004 cycling season Tyler Hamilton test positive for a blood transfusion and was soon after banned from participating in any sanctioned races until 2007. Hamilton (a gold medallist) soon dropped out of the race to allow the other pro’s to continue.
UCI spokesman Enrico Carpani added: “If he wants to take part in un-sanctioned races, he can, and we can’t stop him. “But all other riders and all other teams then cannot participate in that race. If they do, they can be suspended”.
