France’s Spring Class Today - Paris Roubaix

Cycling fans across the world have been enjoying the “spring classics” now for the last four weeks or so, today’s event which takes place in northern France is considered by many to the one of the great “classic events”. Known as the “Hell Of The North” Paris Roubaix has always offered tons of excitement for racing fans.

The course is extremely taxing on the riders as the ride some 150 miles through French countryside on old cobbled roads (about 1/3 of the race is over these cobbled roads). So who are the riders to watch today:

Tom Boonen
With recent win after win in the 2006 cycling season Tom Boonen will be the top contender for victory today. Fresh off his second (consecutive) win at the Tour of Flanders which he dominated in Boonen fashion Tom will surely be looking to take another one for Belgium.

George Hincapie
Hincapie has had a love of these “epic” one day events for years and has come close to winning on several occasions (last year taking second place in the event which is the best ever for an American). While my gut tells me that George does not have the “killer” instinct that is need for a huge win like this it is hard NOT cheering for George.

Fabian Cancellara
Cancellara switched over last year to the Danish super squad CSC which is run by Bjarne Riis (Tour de France winner in 1997 – hope I got that year correct). Cancellara is incredibly strong and could possibly make a move with a few miles to go in hopes of capturing a solo victory which would ruin the sprinters day.

Regardless of who wins today and race should prove exciting! What for cycling coverage from OLN.
