Fantastic news coming out of France this afternoon, race medical inspector Marc Vandevyvere reported that all 189 riders passed their drug tests this year allowing all the registered riders to compete in cyclings biggest event. The race did not fair so well back in 1998 as the French cycling team Festina were caught in a doping scandal which overshadowed the tour that year. That year a a Festina team car was found by race officials to have over 400 phials of performance enhancing drugs.
Last year, Gorka Gonzalez of the Euskaltel Euskadi team was the only rider banned from competing after failing the pre-race blood test. Lance Armstrong has been accused (possibly more than any other pro athlete) many times for using performance enhancing drugs but have never tested positive in his long pro cycling career.
