Team CSC win another big spring classic at the Amstel Gold Race as Luxembourg’s Frank Schleck rides away with victory in a stunning solo break with under 10 kilometer to go. The race did not disappoint as the hilly course provided plenty of opportunities for those willing to attack the other pro riders.
It was just last week when Fabian Cancellara also of team CSC also rode away to a solo victory with about 10 kilometer to go in French classic Paris – Roubaix.
Schleck broke away with several other contenders including Paolo Bettini and Davide Rebellin, however when Scheleck decided it was time to make “his” mark none of the other riders in the break could hang with the boy from Luxembourg. Honourable mention goes out to Steffen Wesmann who continued to attack thought the last one third of the race only to be brought back time and time again by the peloton. None the less somehow Wesmann still had enough juice left in the last two k to attack again and came in second.
