Managed to sneak out today around noon before the clouds could screw up such a great day. Went out with my neighbor again, the plan was to head down the Minnesota river valley for a could of serious climbs. However once we got about 12 or 13 miles into the ride we decided to skip the “big drop”. In hind sight it was a good thing, Tour Guy has a tendincy to over due things a bit and all I really need in my legs is miles.
This time out I tried to pace myself the best I could, I have a tendincy to want to expend too much engergy up a large hill or sprint for a city limits sign right now. My goal was to save that energy and try to maintain my overall speed thought our trip. My thinking seamed to work and I was able to improve my average speed by nearly one full mile per hour (of course I am still sucking wind at only 15.3 mph). The thing that seams to be slowing me down the most right now is the last 5 or 6 miles, as I finish up on these rides my energy seams to really fizzle out.
I was able to eat a good lunch and I am sure that helped out plenty. I had a left over sald with chicken and shrimp along with a few black beans, some corn and grilled peppers (seams pretty healthy to me). If it is nice out tomorow I will head out alone for a short slow ride as I need to allow my legs to recover a bit, these last two rides have been a bit longer than what I was doing alone. At this point I keep wanting to ride even though it hurts a bit, so that is a good thing.
