With last weeks two big early season stage races (Frances Paris Nice and Italy’s Tirreno-Adriatico) both Andreas Koden and Alberto Contador made strides toward the leaders Pro Tour White Jersey. Currently Contador leaders the competition with just three more points than Kloden (due to two stage victories). Davide Rebellin (Gerolsteiner) is in third place with a total of 42 points.
With the season’s first big one day classic coming up I am wondering what the line up with be for the Disco boys. I can’t really see Contador doing well in this early season classic. While he has quite a powerful jump and can climb like an angel he does not possess enough strength to be able to get away on the “smaller” hills near the finish in San Remo.
Personally I would love to see Contador make a stand for the UCI Pro Tour Jersey this season. I enjoyed watching his exploits last year during several stage races, clearly he has a bright future.
