Today I managed to get back out on my bike again and enjoyed a easy 13.2 mile “cruise” through Minnetonka as I weaved through some of the neighborhoods around my area. It was all quite lovely until I started to notice the dreaded loose gravel that seams to have already haunted me. I was just crossing a major intersection (highway 7) and found myself on another smaller intersection with tons and tons of loose gravel on a slight hill as well (and I was cycling “across the hill” not up it) all was fine when the gravel started to slow me and I was nervous about cars in the area. I was not planning on stopping here or crossing but due to all of the darn obstacles I was facing I “touched ground” …
It was a “rather silly” accident and I was going less than 5 miles an hour, sure kinda sucks though. Too bad really I was planning on taking the longer route until that happened, sad thing was I had to continue riding (Minnetonka Blvd) for another 2 miles or so down a fast hill that was also covered in this loose gravel.
I remember when I used to race back in the day, I was at full tilt going about 25 mile per hour rounding a corner, it was quite lovely until the dreaded two to three inches of loose gravel had me in the ditch in no time.
Well, I guess now that I have already crashed I don’t have to worry about that and can move on with more cycling I felt much better today, less the dam crash of course.
