Bobby Julich has riden for Team CSC now for about three years, and it is a very good thing. Before sign for the Danish squad Julich had thought about giving up professional cycling as his results continued to diminish. Then he had a conversation with Bjarne Riis (team manager CSC) who convinced him to sign with CSC, soon after the results started to come like his win at Paris Nice last year.
This year Julich & the Danish squad have put off their spring training and preparation just a bit. The plan was to come into form around the start of this years Giro in hopes of delivering Ivan Basso in Milan wearing the pink jersey (the Giro d’Italia leaders jersey is pink instead of yellow). It has been a plan that Julich feels very comfortable with saying that Ivan has proven himself time and time again that he has what it takes to win a major tour. While Basso will be the team captain at this years Tour of Italy Julich had mentioned that his personal goal is to “wear” the leaders jersey at some point and then to turn it over to Ivan who will most likely attack in the mountains.
“My form is where I wanted to be right now. I think it is just going to come together all at the right time. Obviously you can’t be at top form at the beginning of the Giro, you need to be at 90 percent and then ramp that up all the way through the three weeks.”
Speaking of Team CSC, I had read (and possibly posted) about the team line up and noticed that Jens Voigt was not listed as one of the selected riders for this years Giro. However in a recent article on cyclingnew.com he was listed. Jens is an amazing riders with incredible strength and power over the flat roads and usually does fairly well in the time trials.
