With so much negative press appearing in the new surrounding Lance Armstrong and possible doping during the 1999 Tour de France it is nice to be able to post some positive news. Of course people in the US are very supportive of Lance and the whole “doping thing”. Sad that the man can not retire without this stuff continuing.
Regardless this past week found Armstrong with friend and 5 time Tour winner Eddy Mercks ridding for a charity event in Oregon followed by more than 3000 other cyclists. The ride was organized by Armstrong as the “Livestrong Ride” with proceeds being donated to support cancer victims as well as cancer research.
The prior week Lance was riding in Canada for another fund raising event which hoped to raise half a million, the event raised more than 1.25 million dollars and was a huge success.
With Lance holding the record for most tour wins (an incredible 7 of course) it is really nice to see him active and helping such a wonderful cause. Speaking of the Tour de France October 27 the 2006 Tour de France route will be unveiled. It will be interesting to see who is at that event.
