Anthony from the Bay Area of California writes in to share his love of the Tour de France with the world.
Hey, my name is Anthony, and I’m from the Bay Area, California. I’m a 22 year old college student who rides for UC Davis. I first got into the tour because I began working at a running store with a ton of cyclists. After pretty much ruining my knees as a Tennis player, I began biking. Both with the intent of rehab’n my knees, and
to get into Triathlons. I wanted to be able to help the customers at our store who needed help with their triathlon experience. Soon after I hit the bike (the day that I bought it) I knew that I was a cyclist. I’ve had time off due to laziness, but I’ve been riding now for roughly four years.
After getting into biking, it was only natural that I started to watch the tour. I never cared much for bike racing before, but the excitement and the knowledge that surrounded me in my new friends was infectious. I couldn’t help it. I love it. The subtlty, the sportsmanship, the history.
Right now I don’t have a fondest memory of the tour. I’ve only been watching it for two years, and they have been so dominated by Lance that I didn’t sense as much drama as I would have liked. My favorite rider, however, is Andreas Kloden, and when he finished 2nd, I was amped.
This year I am extremely stoked for the tour, with the shoo-in winner Lance gone, the drama is BACK. I truly think that Vino, left to his own devices, is a threat to win. Ullrich I believe is in great form, and with Lance gone has an extra incentive to prove himself the man. Ivan, no doubt, will podium, and I would love to see Floyd in the top
three. For my bet though, Vinokourov all the way. He’s an animal.

Thanks for writing Anthony, like yourself I am a big fan of Vino and am really disappointed that he is now out of the race simply because Wurth could not field a team of more than 6 riders. I hope Vino leaves that team the first chance he gets.
