Or Flash In The Pan?
Over the last few years I have continued to follow pro cycling more and more, several years ago I watched the Tour de France with great enjoyment. Last year I also was able to catch some of the Giro live (what happened to live coverage this year OLN?) This year I watched dam near everything that came across my screen on OLN, that meant weekly coverage of the “classics” like Paris Roubaix and Milan San Remo (which is fun to say with a slow Italian accent) … hee hee
However this year David Zabriskie caught me by surprise, although he has won some very impressive stages in all 3 grand tours:
- La Vuelta a España (Tour of Spain in September, 2004)
- The Giro (Tour of Italy in May, 2005)
- This years Tour de France July, 2005)
All these wins are fantastic however this years win in the opening stage of the Tour de France is special, in fact it puts Zabriskie in an elite group of American cyclists.
- Greg Lemond
- Lance Armstrong
- and now David Zabriskie
Of course these are the only Americans to ever have won the yellow jersey also known in France as the “Maillot Jaune”. Cheers to Mr. Zabriskie, keep smiling …. keep enjoying your races and your time in the sun.
