Americans Look Strong Weeks Before The Tour

Time for a good ole American show down smack in the middle of France just weeks before the big race … The Tour de France. Last Sunday the last and most important “preparation race” to the Tour de France got underway with a big showing from the Americans, CSC’s David Zabriskie took the opening prologue time trial narrowly beating out Discovery Channel rider George Hincapie who is not only back riding with the pro peloton but obviously ready for July.

Other American riders who are participating in the Dauphine Libere are Floyd Landis and Levi Leipheimer. Landis also looked excellent in the short time trial (under 5k’s) while Leipheimer got off to a great start but had an issue with his time trialing bike (handlebars) and lost a couple of seconds. This years Dauphine Libere should get exciting in the coming days when the riders head into the feared alps for some nasty climbs.

More coverage to follow.
