Tough news out of the Illes Balears cycling team, Star Alejando Valverde will not be riding in his home countries tour this year (Vuelta – Tour Of Spain). The Vuelta is much like the Tour de France in that it is raced over thousands of miles and runs for a three week perdiod. It is considered to be one of the three “grand tours” of the pro cycling season.
Valverde had an excellent start to this years Tour de France and then ran into problems with his knee which forced him to retire from the race early (while in the top 10 at the time). Eurosport.com has some additional coverage of the rider and pictures as well.
