Alberto Contador Win’s Paris Nice With Style

Alberto-contador

Last year was a difficult year for the young Spanish cycling pro Alberto Contador, however Contador has found a home with the recently revamped Discovery Channel cycling team and has already won two races this year. At just 24 years of age and now on one of the best pro teams (Discovery Channel) it would look as if Contador could be a huge cycling star of the future.

Last week I was itching to tune into cycling.tv however my wife and I agreed we would watch the finial stage together. I was a bit afraid the last stage would be rather boring however I forgot that the race finished in the south of France where it is very mountainous.

The last stage was not only exciting to watch but also beautiful to look at (don’t think the riders had a chance to catch the great views however). The first several day’s of the seven day stage race had Contador just a few seconds behind Davide Rebellin.

As the last stage on Sunday got underway the Disco Boys made their way to the front every early on and increased the tempo and a feverish pace on the last three climbs in an effort to wear down the Gerolsteiner team (team of Davide Rebellin).

The tactics were a bit risky however they payed off, during the second to the last climb of the day I did not see one Gerolsteiner rider any where near the front.

As the “blue and black train” made it’s way to the last climb of the day Contador wasted no time and launched an attack straight off the front that one one could answer. Once at the summit of the last climb the Spanish rider had about 8 kilometers to stay away and Rebellin did all he could to bring back the Discovery rider however it was not meant to be and Contador won the race.
