11& Counting For Boonen

The young Belgium cycling star Tom Boonen grabs another victory for an outstanding start to the 2006 cycling season. Boonen’s latest victory (Harelbeke Grand Prix is his eleventh for the season) will surely put him in a great state of mind as he defends his Tour of Flanders crown which will take place in about a week or so.

The tour of Flanders is a difficult course which contains many step hills which at times are covered with cobblestones. Boonen’s apparent ease on the cobblestones augurs well for next week’s first big challenge of the Spring Classics campaign at Flanders.

Last year the Belgium star not only won at Flanders but competed a week later in the gruelling Paris-Roubaix and out sprinted American George Hincapie for the win their as well. If Boonen’s start to this season is any indication he was excellent odds at winning one of these “great” spring races in the coming weeks. Boonen commented on the start to his season with, “I’ve been riding like a dream.”
